Music Analysis
Everyday I will listen to and analyze sections of iconic music albums from all genres and time periods to broaden my knowledge of music.
Today instead of continuing Handel's "Messiah" I listened to the soundtrack of the Broadway musical "Chicago." Someone made a comment about it and it had been awhile since I listened to it so I refreshed my memory. I enjoyed it very much.

Today I continued to listen to Handel's "Messiah." There were a lot of solo performances in this section for both voice and individual instruments. It had a darker tone for the majority of the time but towards the end the music lightened up.
Today I started listening to Handel's "Messiah" which is a beautiful combination of choral music and orchestra. I sang a few sections from it in my old choir and I loved it so I decided to listen to the whole thing. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, it depends on how you look at it,) it is almost three hours long so it will take many class periods to get through.
Today I listened to Dvorak's "New World Symphony" for the second time so I could try and listen for the musical elements that Cyle showed me. If I'm being completely honest, while I was listening I completely forgot to analyze the music because I was transfixed by the absolute perfection of it. I'll try again tomorrow with the next section.
Today I listened to John Denver. He's one of the most successful artists of all time and I love his music. He writes a lot of songs about love, nature, and his love for Colorado. His voice is gorgeous and he sounds better live than recorded which isn't true for most artists. He's one of the most talented people I have encountered.
Today I listened to a variety of Broadway music. I listened to Phantom of the Opera music, music from Les Miserable, and Jesus Christ Superstar music. It was all music I've heard before but it was fantastic to listen to again.
Today I listened to Gershwin with Catelynn. It was very jazzy and his piano skills are incredible. I've played a few of his pieces on the piano before but they did't sound anything like like the way that they sounded when he played them.
Today I listened to Dvorak's 7th symphony. I didn't enjoy it as much as his New World Symphony or his 8th symphony but it was still beautiful. I'm not sure what it was, but it had a different sound than the other two symphonies of his that I have listened to.
Today I listened to Dvorak's 8th symphony and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than his "New World" Symphony. I plan on listening to more of his work because he is incredible.
